Moiras is the ardour of contributing to the world through music

About

ABOUT US

What repertoire do we play?

Moiras is a versatile ensemble, covering works from the baroque, classical, romantic and 20th century, as well as contemporary compositions and arrangements. Moiras has the intention to especially bring light to Spanish and Latin American music. The duo is also looking forward to highlight and divulge more unknown folk music from various nationalities to their audiences.

Who are we?

Moiras is a violin-cello duo, versatile and flexible in its style and size, while offering infinite possibilities across the sound palate. The technical capacity of this instrumentation allows a wide gambit of repertoire, while its duo size allows performances in various situations and locations. Moiras represents friendship, love of music and ardour of contributing to the world through music.

How did Moiras come about?

The duo was formed by violinist Oleńka Cygan and cellist Cristina Simón. The musical silence of the pandemic prompted the two musicians to join forces and achieve their endeavour of creating a project that would establish their musical identity under their own direction. The name “Moiras” was inspired by the Greek mythology of destiny.

The trajectory of young instrumentalists encompasses music pedagogy. Apart from the objectives of divulging classical music through live concerts, Moiras aspires to engage with musicians during their training phase through masterclasses for violin and cello, as well as offering workshops focused on developing conscious practice habits for all instruments. Oleńka and Cristina aspire to help young musicians develop their abilities on their instrument and achieve their potential on stage, as well as help instill practice sessions with good habits.
